Being a Newcastle-ite, it is impossible to escape the current brewhaha surrounding former rugby league player Mathew Johns' involvement in a group sex scandal that has rocked the sport to its insidious core. (http://www.abc.net.au/4corners/content/2009/s2565007.htm)
I personally wouldn't poke a high profile sportsman- let alone a rugby league player- with a ten foot pole, however I can appreciate the motivation (however misconstrued) and awe that blinds some unsuspecting women.
Whatever the reasons for this particular individuals involvement, something went very wrong. Wrong enough for her to feel so used and disrespected she seriously considered taking her own life. And for this reason, the situation again etches the beer swilling, thuggish, moron footy head stereotype further into my psyche.

Give me a SNAG any day.
